It’s been a privilege to be part of a team tracking the course of MMO news for a decade-and-a-half now. I’ve often said that what keeps my interest in this job is that I never know what the next day might bring. This industry is surprising and often unpredictable, and where we are now isn’t what I would have predicted back in, say, 2005 or 2010.
That makes it even tougher to try to fathom where MMOs might be going in the next generation. We’ve got ambitious sandboxes on the way, but also survival MMOs, but also remakes, but also evergreen features. Some titles are looking to the past for inspiration while others are trying bold and risky new approaches.
This is a pretty broad question, but what do you think that the next generation of MMO players are looking for in their games? Is the foundation for that already here or has it yet to be invented?
