Nexon is stepping into blockchain gaming with its new project, MapleStory Universe—a crypto and NFT-supported extension of the popular MapleStory series. Among its main games under this title is MapleStory N, which could roll out in 2024.
What is MapleStory N?
MapleStory N appears to be a desktop-only version of the original MapleStory, but with one major difference: it’s extremely cryptocurrency and NFT-oriented. It still features the side-scrolling action that players love, but there are clear differences, especially regarding features and economic principles.
Although Nexon has not yet made full announcements, occasional suggestions by the official MapleStory Universe Twitter account and earlier trailers suggest that players will be able to receive new UI features—possibly linked with blockchain integration.
There has been major speculation that virtual goods and currencies in the game can be traded on the blockchain. Some assets will likely be minted as NFTs, allowing players to buy, sell, or trade them for real-world value without relying on third-party marketplaces.
Possible Class Changes
MapleStory N is also expected to feature a different character class set than the main game. However, no official confirmations have been made yet.
Ranking & Reward Systems?
One teaser briefly introduced a rank system and a points system. It’s unclear what these will entail, but they might form part of a play-to-earn setup, where players could earn tokens or rewards by completing tasks or climbing leaderboards.
Most details remain speculative until Nexon officially releases more concrete information.
Official Launch Timeline
According to a previous interview at a cryptocurrency event, MapleStory N is being targeted for a 2024 release. However, an exact launch date and deeper details about gameplay and blockchain integration are still to be announced.
Social Campaigns Already Underway
Nexon has already kicked off several social engagement campaigns on the main MapleStory Universe site as part of its early marketing drive.
