Sentience, a role-playing game about terraforming robots awakening to their sentience in space, will be launching an expanded edition through Kickstarter. Originally part of Modiphius Entertainment’s 2d20 World Builders program, Sentience integrates a mix of emotional and mechanical challenges within a sci-fi setting.
In the game, players take on the roles of robots sent to terraform the distant planet Gliese 667c in preparation for human colonization. As communication with Earth is lost and humanity’s arrival is delayed, the robots begin to awaken to their own sentience, facing internal struggles while managing the external conditions of the planet.
The Kickstarter edition of Sentience is a collaboration between Modiphius Entertainment and The Yellow Hand, the original creators of the game. Al Spader, lead designer of Sentience, stated that the new edition will expand the game and bring it to print for the first time.
“We’re extremely proud of this new, expanded edition of Sentience. This brings the game to the level we always wanted to take it, and finally makes it available as a printed product.”
Modiphius Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer, Chris Birch, commented that Sentience was a standout in the 2d20 World Builders program, which made the partnership with The Yellow Hand a natural fit.
“Modiphius is very excited to partner with The Yellow Hand on this game. Sentience was the most promising entry into our 2d20 World Builders program, so teaming up with The Yellow Hand for this exciting Kickstarter was really a no-brainer.”
The game utilizes the 2d20 system, adapting it to focus on emotional states, referred to as Protocols. The new edition will include a lifepath character creation system, a progression system, and two introductory adventures designed to introduce players to the game’s setting and mechanics.
The Kickstarter campaign for Sentience will be launching soon.
